The Pig and the Lady

Sometimes, a hiatus is in order.
Life can be much too hectic at times, even for your average 22-year old, college student who loves to bake, cook, and write. The truth is, everyone needs a break, even when it means peeling yourself away from the things you love to do.
These last few months have been both immensely taxing and astonishing to me. I caught a most severe case of Senioritis leading into my first month of my last semester as an undergrad student. Classes were ditched, assignments missed, and I played hooky left and right to no end (until now, that is). Meanwhile, I found love in an unfamiliarly familiar, irrationally justified, and imperfectly perfect person.  And like all other great loves in life, it was completely unexpected. More untimely and unexpected is the fact that I am currently in job-limbo after having made a bold (and admittedly a little impetuous) decision to leave my precious hostessing job at a restaurant that I have come to cherish as my home over the last 3 years. With all that said and done, a hiatus was and still is undoubtedly in order so that I may refresh, venture forth, and excel in the perpetually uncharted future.
And though my future (post-hiatus) may not be as discernible (nor brilliant, dare I say) as that of The Pig and the Lady’s, I still find myself extremely lucky to have experienced this pop-up restaurant phenomenon prior to their break and my own.

With wonderfully delectable and artistic creations brought forth by Andrew Le, former sous chef of Mavro, and the endearing and modest, communal atmosphere of its was-current pop-up location at Hank’s Haute Dog, The Pig and the Lady melds the best of both dining out and eating in. It’s delicious high-end, quality cuisine in a comfortable at-home, family dinner setting; perhaps the embodiment of the ideal dining experience.
Their menu changes frequently with heavy Southeast Asian influence. But, the menu also tends to jump around the world to whatever inspires both creativity and of course, remarkable flavors. Their most recent menu consisted of Squash Blossoms (zucchini mousse, pickled hearts of palm, summer vegetables in a tomato curry vinaigrette), Caramelized Fish (sea asparagus, jicama, pressed jasmine rice), Pork Loin (trotter croquette, pickled mustard cabbage with bacon, roasted pineapple pork, jus), Bun Mang Vit (duck and bamboo noodle soup, rau ram vermicelli), and Jasmine Tea Ice Cream (honeycomb sugar, mung bean cake, figs). Now, if reading the menu alone doesn’t have you sold (as was the case for me), wait until you get a chance to experience each dish yourself – you’ll be positively blown away.
Sadly, I am still unsure of the exact date and next location of their return, but I implore you to keep tabs on their site to snag a couple tickets for the comeback when available before they sell out (which is typically at a most rapid pace). Especially after this break they’re taking because if they’re like me, they’ll come back stronger and better than ever. It’s a restaurant experience, I assure, you don’t want to miss and you’ll never forget!
